Dietitians and Food Bloggers Visit Dairy Farms

Dietitian Farm Tour 2012

Most of us aren’t as in touch with agriculture as we used to be – most people no longer have relatives involved with farming, and few of us have farms and farmers as our next door neighbors, yet many of us talk about food AND all of us eat. Knowing how, where, and by whom our food is produced is important and getting to know dairy farmers, hearing their story, can help make connections from farm to table.

Land – Cows – Nutrition – Milk – Safety – Family – Farming – Recycling – Health – Crops – Food

And who better to hear that story than people who talk about food for a living? This month, the Dairy Council launched a series of farm tours – an opportunity to bring people who talk and write about food back to the source. These first dairy farm tours offered Utah food bloggers and dietitians an opportunity to meet farmers, see cows, and experience working farms. The Cow Locale is excited to share some of their thoughts & experiences on these recent events.

“This tour was an invaluable tool for RD’s. To see the faces behind the dairy I consume greatly increases my appreciation for what I consume!” -Utah Dietitian

“It takes all kinds [of farms] to make the food system go around. The farmers truly care about their product and the animals.” -Utah Dietitian

“Every time I have the opportunity to meet a farmer, I have that much more respect for what they do and how hard they work. This time was no exception.” -Utah Food Blogger
